I've not been of any help.

Look for a rep for putting up with my poor effort at helping.
    I'm timed out now.
    Tomorrow.

[QUOTE=Ztruker;353752]Dencal, I don't understand what that is supposed to do, can you explain or point me to some information?

This works on a desktop if you have an ISO or dvd......definitely worth a try and you still retain Windows 8.1.
Start laptop then click on "Restart holding down Shift Key".
This will bring up a "Choose An Option Screen"
Click on "Troubleshoot"...then "Advanced Options"....then "System Image Recovery".
This will not affect any thing other than System Image.
    Hope this helps.
If you have a fault in sfc /scannow that cannot be repaired then it makes sense to do a system image recovery.
This will only rectify any faults in system image and not do a complete reinstallation, and will inform you if successful and list any repaired faults in your cbs log.
The whole process only takes a couple of minutes.

Actually, you should be receiving a rep instead of giving one for trying to assist IMHO...

Ztruker, have you tried for additional help from sysnative forums? I've found they are fairly knowledgeable about SFC and DISM. Just a suggestion... hope I'm allowed to post links like this.

Sysnative and sevenforums are not the best of friends. I may give them a try if I can't figure this out.

David, I do appreciate your efforts. I've been at this for awhile now so most of the suggestions I'm getting I've already tried. The new one is the one dencal made. I'll look into that and see if I'm willing to give it a try. I don't want to do anything that reinstalls the system at this time. Other than the SFC/DISM problem, my computer runs great, everything works without problems.

For the life of me I cannot understand... I quote your words "The new one is the one dencal made"....
See my posts 36-39-41-43-53 and now 57......Have I not clearly explained that this does not reinstall the system...it only rectifies any faults if any.

I understand what you have told me. As soon as I verify this for myself I will proceed, not before.

Please be patient. You may know what you are doing with this, but I don't and I need to understand what is going on before I do something. Where can I read about this so I understand it? I'm sorry if this annoys you but I need to be comfortable with something before I do it.

Okay, did some searching and what you say is not true. System Image Restore does restore your system to the state it was in when the System Image was created.

The above link only refers to...."If the entire computer stops working".
I can only state from personal experience that the method I have posted works.
You are obviously a person who knows not how to solve the above problem, yet queries it when someone offers help.
I have therefore decided not to participate further in this thread.

No, I'm a person who will not blindly do what someone tells me to do when I'm pretty sure it will not work as described.

Dencal, I'm sorry if I've offended you but believe it or not I've been working with and fixing computers for a long time. I've learned to question everything and only do things once I understand them. This SFCD/DISM problem is interesting and one of these days I'll fix it but I'm not going to do an image restore to fix something that is not (yet) causing me any other problem.

    Peace
