PC not going to sleep after waking up for maintenance

  1. #11

Ok. We know something is not allowing it to go back to sleep, right. I'm wondering if it does conflict with Samsung Magician somehow. I'm wondering is Samsung Magician adds a task. It must.

Please perform this: Windows+R > Type or copy/paste taskschd.msc > press enter > In the left pane of Task Scheduler expand Task Scheduler Library > Microsoft > Windows folders then highlight the TaskScheduler folder and take a screenshot. Please post that.

    Wow! you're quick!

Well, there goes that hunch. The maintenance schedule you set up (in post #1) can't be running for 4 hours, right? Or could it? Is Norton set for full scan? Do you notice anything running in the morning?

If not, we have to find a log for all this. Unfortunately 8.1 doesn't record too many logs unless there's a fault. You seem to be an advanced user. Do you know how to get to and use Event Viewer? If so, please look in there. In the mean time I'll look.

Its quite unlikely to run for 4 straight hours. I did not notice anything when I found the PC awake. I know how to get to the Event Viewer, not sure what or how to read things. Never really used it.

EDIT: NIS is set to full system scan every month:

One thing is for certain. PC woke at around 4AM on the 18th, NIS ran the idle Quick Scan and the PC went back to sleep at some point in time before I opened the lid.

EDIT 2: Can the scheduled maintenance override the power options set for the PC to sleep in one hour (if idle)?

So it quick scans every day, but full scans every 30 days.

How long has 8.1 been on the machine? So often we add things, especially 3rd party maintenance, before the system has stabilized. 8/8.1 have a terrible track record with 3rd party AV. I would suggest to reverse the maintenance time you set up and see how it goes tonight.

In the mean time check logs in Event viewer as shown below. I can't show the whole tree that's why 2 shots.

Hello everyone, I get a BSOD when waking my Laptop out of sleep. I believe this doesn't happen on Win 8 with no updates applied. So I think it may be a Windows update or driver that is causing my BSODs. I do not believe its hardware related like a failing HDD. Though I could be wrong.
