I have an older PC - Pentium class - that is running Windows 8.1 with no problems. A bit sluggish, but not bad.
I would like to add a monitor with Touch capabilities and use it's USB driver.
Does anyone know if there is a big performance hit in that scenario?
This is being used in a local Senior Center with only guest access. People use it mostly for browsing and email but we would like to get involved in the touch gestures, etc.

The only issue I see is your touch screen may not be a responsive as you would hope, which could cause the user to get frustrated and start tapping on extra things. Personally I wouldn't put a touch screen on something that old and just leave it as is.

it could be as you said but if you want to speed up you can use ReadyBoost option and i think you know it if u dont you can use any usb drive to speed up your computer by right clicking it and selecting ready boost it will use your free usb space to speed up your PC and gve you mre ram space
To follow up. Our Senior Center decided to buy the Acer T232HL BMIDZ touch monitor. It arrived today and I installed it in a few minutes. No drivers were needed. We used the USB 2 port, not having any USB 3 ports on that older computer.
The first thing we did was fire up Paint and do fingerpainting!
This works like a 'charm' for our needs. It's possible there is a little lag in 10-finger drawing, but it seems fine for our needs.
After about an hour of play I think we were all delighted with purchase and the results.
