After 8.1 update should D:/ drive appear full???

Since updating from Windows 8 [preinstalled] to 8.1 my D: drive appears nearly full. Is this normal? Should I be concerned? Will it affect performance?

    Thanks ...

    64-bit Windows 10

Hello regissix, and welcome to Eight Forums.

This would most likely be left over installation files and the Windows.old folder taking up the space. See if doing step 26 in OPTION THREE below may free up the space if so.

Upgrade Install to Windows 8 or Windows 8.1

    Hope this helps for now,
    Shawn

D: is your Recovery Partition, which should not have a drive letter, & fine for space.

Not computer literate I'm afraid. Could you explain what you mean?

    Thanks ...

sorry mate... still don't get it. I see that my 'recovery partition' is different from your screenshot as mine has a letter in it. Is this good or bad? If bad, I wouldn't have a clue how to change it. Someone else updated the system to 8.1 for me.

    Cheers ...

    1) Remove the drive letter.
Drive Letter - Add, Change, or Remove in Windows - Windows 7 Help Forums

2)Open command prompt (run as admin)

    Type in command line

    diskpart
    list disk
    select disk 0
    list partition
