I use these. They're as easy as a right click of the mouse. No "bat" files needed.

Shut Down - Add to Desktop Context Menu in Windows 8
Restart - Add to Desktop Context Menu in Windows 8

Now, I have upgraded a while ago from Windows 7 to 8, and finally 8.1. Love many thing, hate a few, but I like being reminded of peoples birthdays and other dates on start up. Windows 8 xx is not for everyone I admit.

Do you miss the Startup and shutdown buttons though. Here's my solution.

Download these batch files and stick them somewhere on your PC, make a shortcut to them on say your desktop - here's my desktop btw. https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resi...t=photo%2c.jpg

And here are the two files to d/load and place on your PC, just right click, make a shortcut and change the Icon accordingly (I have used Shutdown and restart icons) - enjoy! https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resi...nt=file%2c.bat

Do you miss the Start-upClick image for larger version and shutdown buttons though. Here's my solution.

I have Lock and Shut Down shortcuts on my Start menu and taskbar. 1 click works for me.

Well it looks like after installing the February 2014 Update Rollup, shutdown from Win+X menu is a hybrid one: Shutdown time is longer when shutting down from the Start hint context menu in Windows 8.1
