Trying to use new win8 Disk to repair win8 on desktop But!

So I bought windows 8 online months ago and what I though was a repair disk that I thought I was making at the time did not work, so I ordered the installation disk. I'm trying to use automatic repair using my new install disk but it keeps telling me it is unable to make repairs because the target windows is locked. WTF? I'm full control administrator and are not connected to any network. I really hope someone helps me here cuz my win8 OS is acting very unstable. I love the new feature that lets one make repairs without touching any personal data. Speaking of data, I do have backups available if (and I have the feeling its what I will end up having to do) I have to do the most dreaded... Complete erase & Install... UGH!! GOD I HOPE I DONT HAVE TO!!!

Hey. If you explain any issue(s) in how it is acting unstable, we might be able to help.

Well... I wanted to originally do that, but figured it may be easier to have win repair itself.. okay, So first of all "Steam" still can not connect to internet. also my drop box & Ableton Live 9 app has same issue. I actually did post this issue before but no one was able to help. I included a screen shot of a .DLL error that displays everytime I restart. I can not find the issue causing it and its driving me crazy... Last issue.. When I plug in a USB HDD it "sometimes" reads the disk, most times not. this may be a hardware issue and if so that would really Piss me off for simple fact my motherboard only being 1yr old.
..Man, Thank you so much for replying and offering to help. I am sometimes blown away on the amount of people here who are very helpful and PATIENT!! LOL

Oh.. And I checked firewall setting and nothing looks out of the norm. I could however be completely wrong but I never tread in this area cuz I have Norton taking driver seat in that department

You may not like what I have to say, but it is what it is. I only give advice as if machines were my own. This way, I feel most confident in helping people rather than setting them back.

If the machine were mine, I would uninstall Norton. Reboot. Then download the removal tool they offer. Run it. Reboot.

Set Windows Firewall and Windows Defender services to Automatic and start them too.

Then I would uninstall whatever that Conduit software is, if it still has issues.
Delete C:\Users\nathan\AppData\Local\Conduit folder. Download a fresh copy and re-install it.

Check IE LAN settings if connection problems persist. (They likely will not.)

Install the latest USB 3.0 driver from your motherboard manufacturer's site.

    You're welcome.

Well, I may not like it but at least its a direction to go to. as far as the conduit issue, I relentlessly searched everywhere trying to find anything named conduit and delete. I have no idea what it is or came from. Thank you master chief... Master of all things windows you are!!

Wait a sec.. WTF did I just pay 20$ (shipping included) for the actual windows disk if it can not do a windows repair. I mean this was at least one feature that im sure everyone liked. repairs without touching personal data by a few clicks? what gives? I'd at least like to try that before having to do the big homework assignment given

In that case, to handle Conduit issue then just simply delete C:\Users\nathan\AppData\Local\Conduit folder.

Run Ccleaner to clear all junk files from the machine. Then, it also has a registry cleaning feature which you should use. Delete all entries it finds.

If I remember correctly, Windows 8 Task Manager has a tab that shows all startup programs that you can use to disable Windows trying to start Conduit. (The easy way to go about it.) Or see Brink's tutorial here.

Ya though, your machine will thank you leaps and bounds with that Norton removed for various reasons.

I did exactly this long ago, many times also (the CCleaner registry cleaner)
