I can give you fairly specific advice about removal if I see your machine's msinfo.

To post it, type msinfo32 in Start, press Enter. On the opened screen, File | Save.

Zip or rar the saved file and attach to a post here.

I don't want to be "that guy" - but McAfee! haha

    Lakerfanalways,

When I read your original message, it was as if I had written it myself!

I have exactly the same computer bought at exactly the same time and with exactly the same shutdown problem after I updated to Windows 8.1

Have you managed to sort this out yet? I doubt very much whether a motherboard replacement would make any difference.

Yep its all sorted out..Dell downgraded my bluetooth firmware to june 2013 I believe and its been working fine since then(Its been about a month or so) until Dell comes up with a fix(Which I am surprised they have not come up with) I will just leave it alone..quick question though..one of the microsoft updates, put the skydrive icon near my clock and its SO annoying, everyday when I turn on the PC I unclick it but it comes back again a few hours later how can I prevent it from showing up?

    Lakerfanalways,

Thanks for your info about the Bluetooth driver software. My PC now shuts down very quickly.

For anyone else with the same problem, this is what I did:

I downgraded my Bluetooth driver version from 8.0.1.241 to 8.0.1.232

If you are unable to roll back your driver version then you can download the following file:
    XPS-8700_Network_Driver_P84MY_WN_10.0.0.260_A00.EXE

You should be able to find it easily if you search for it.

I extracted the driver files to a temporary location and manually installed version 8.0.1.232 from there.

    Works perfectly!

As for your Skydrive problem, how and what exactly are you "unclicking"?

You can customise which icons are shown by going to the Control Panel and then selecting Notification Area Icons.

Is it just the icon that's annoying you but you still want to use SkyDrive/OneDrive?

Have a look here to see how to disable or enable it via the registry:

OneDrive Integration in Windows 8.1 - Enable or Disable

If you don't want to use it at all, you can uninstall it completely via Programs and Features.

Thanks so much for the heads up on the Bluetooth driver issue. I did what you said on my XPS 8700 and solved the problem I have had since December. Dell tech could not find any problem and had recommended I refresh windows which meant reinstalling all my applications. No way did I want to do that. Rolling back the BT driver caused the shutdown time to return to normal.

There are 38 answers and I did not read all of them. But did you look into Event Viewer Events 203. That may give you a clue what's holding it up.

    Drill down this chain:

    Eventvwr
    Applications and Service Logs
    Microsoft
    Windows
    Diagnostics - performance
    Operational
    Event ID 203
