No active custom recovery image

When I entered recimg/showcurrent in elevated cmd , I get the message : There is no active custom recovery image.

However when I checked disk management , I get the following partitions:

EFI System 50mb
OEM 40mb
Recovery Partition 2GB
OS C 50.12Gb
Recovery Partition 5.42Gb

What are in those 2 Recovery Partitions ? Are they the 2 restore points I created? Why is the second Recovery Partition so much larger than the first?

Tks

Looking at the partitioning, looks be a OEM manufacturer's PC, but all the partitions are to small to be.

Hello sportflyer,

The OEM recovery partition is for a factory reset, and is not related to a custom recovery image which is used when refreshing Windows instead.

You would need to create a custom recovery image to have one. See the related links at the bottom of the tutorial below as well.

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/3610-refresh-windows-8-create-use-custom-recovery-image.html

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

Wouldn't it be easier to use Macrium Reflect and save the drive images to a USB Ext drive ?

It's just another option to use with Refresh instead of the default, but Macrium would be a good option for a system image type backup. :)

Since the DVP11 tablet has only one USB port , is it OK to use a USB hub so I can use one port of the hub for the bootable flash drive , and another for the USB Hard Drive where the recovery image is stored ? I read somewhere that its not advisable to use a USB hub for this kind of Operation. Tks

Yeah, for a custom recovery image, you would want it saved in an internal hard drive. Otherwise it most likely will not be available when you need it since it if saved on a removable drive.

I have made the C drive image with Macrium and also prepared a Linux bootable USB stick using the methods recommended by macrium.

I wanted to test out the bootable usb flash drive.

I quickly learned that I cant use a bluetooth KB for this ! I connected an old USB KB so I can use F2 .

I did not get the boot screen but some pane with settings like boot from Windows , UEFI etc . I dont recognize any of the settings. Perhaps that was because I had the usb boot stick in place when I started the system and pressed F2.

I got locked out and had to get the proper key to continue to boot into windows.

Do I have to disable UEFI before trying to boot from this flash drive?

Not sure what is the proper procedure.

I use the same version ie 5.2 . The Bios page is not what I expected.

I get a windows like page whee the LHS has items like General, System config,Video etc etc . Is this the new Bios interface?

My problem is I cant find the button to change boot order under Boot Options.

I tried the Linux bootable USB stick I prepared previously on my Win 7 machine and it does work .
My problem is that I dont know how to change the boot order of Dell Pro 11 tablet. When I boot into the bios settings , there does not seem to be an option to change boot order even though the instructions say there is this option.

So my linux based recovery usb wont work in this new 8.1 tablet? I should then prepare another one with Win PE4 ( x32) per your posting above just in case? I did try the bootable usb stick on my other win 7 machine and it does work there.
