Windows 8 Monitor goes off after 20 min but set never

    Hi,

I have started having this random problem , well its only just started the last couple of days and I haven't installed anything or changed anything. I have all monitor sleep function's set to never and every time I walk away from the computer for about 20 min the monitors seem to go off and I have to move the mouse and they come back on. Its really annoying anybody got any ideas on how to fix this?

    Hello Budinga,

If you have an OEM computer that came with Windows preinstalled, then this could be some power management program that the OEM has preinstalled on the computer that is overriding your Control Panel power plan settings.

If so, then check your running and installed programs to see if one of them may be the culprit. It may take a bit to go through each one and look at each one's settings though.

    Hope this may help,
    Shawn

Double check to see if you may have the screen saver turned on using the "Blank" screen saver and to be used after a 30 minute wait.

In addition, check to see if the monitor itself may have a power management feature of it's own that causes it to turn off after the 30 minutes.

Screen saver is set to none. and I have 2 monitors and its very unlikely they both suddenly changed there power management settings. I am so confused it just decided to start doing this.

Since this has just started to happen, you could also do a system restore using a restore point dated before this happened to hopefully undo and stop this.

I'm afraid I'm not aware if there's an event log for this or not.

One more thing to check is to see if by chance it may be automatic dimming with Dimmed display brightness set to 0% brightness jus making it look like the display is off, but really just dimmed to 0%.

You can test this by setting "Dim display after" to 0 minutes.

Dim Display Automatically - Turn On or Off in Windows 8

If you do not have Dim display after, then your display(s) will automatically dim by the percentage set in "Dimmed display brightness" exactly 15 seconds before what is set in "Turn off display after".
