    Windows defragger & optimizer

I tried this and I can't tell if it works or not. When I defrag & optimize it never stops going thru passes. I stopped it at pass 15 but there was no evidence that anything was corrected.

    Anybody know anything about this

    Thanks

I never did like the defrag that come built into Windows. The one I have been using for years is called auslogics disk defrag. It is a free download and it's a good one.

    I like this one :
Disk SpeedUp - Free Defragmenter to Defrag Disk for Best Performance | Glarysoft
    It's free, fast and customizable,
Also, if there's not enough empty space on the disk it might behave like that.
Just remembered something, you are not trying to defragment an SSD, are you ?

Get jkdefrag 3.36 and extract it to your \windows\system32 folder, then load scheduled tasks and edit the defrag task, change the command so instead of read defrag.exe read jkdefrag.exe without any other parameter, enjoy the best defragmenting software ever.

Win8 does not need to much defragmenting if disks are always on it. Only in case a disk is swapped between computers like when new HDD has stuff from other computers or removable disk that has been "around". In some cases, some apparent fragmentation is even desirable like in fixed size data base files and such. So if you see some red squares do not worry. Generally speaking, under 15% fragmentation has absolutely no ill effect.
