Can I not reimage another tablet's image?

    Hello,

I have searched everywhere (I think) and cannot find a resolution to my issue. I have two Surface Pro 2 tablets OS 8.1. I am trying to use the system image from one and image the second tablet with the saved system image. The tablets will be used offline only for data collection purposes.

I set up the first one with all of my programs. I went through the "create recovery drive" process. I used the "make a bootable drive" to a 64GB USB. I included the recovery partition in the image backup. I disabled the safe boot on the second tablet. Every time I try to recover the saved image from the USB by selecting USB device, it does not recognize the USB, reboots, and goes back to the "choose an option" screen.

At "choose an option", I even selected "troubleshoot", "advanced options", and then "system image recovery". I select "Windows 8.1" and the window pops up to re-image computer. It cannot find the image on the computer so I select cancel. "select a system image" is the only selectable option so I click next. It does not list any recent images so I select advanced. The only two options I have is "search for a system image on the network" or "install a driver".

I am at a standstill. Can I not reimage another tablet's image or am I missing something? I even went as far as restoring the second tablet to factory and used the same pc name and username/password as the first tablet I saved the image from.

I apologize for the lengthy post. Any help you can provide is appreciated.

If you have used the Factory Reset Image to reimage PC 2, you have reimaged.

Sorry what I meant was I reset PC 2 to factory default and used the same credentials as PC 1 in hopes that the restore function would see the saved backup on the USB (I'm sure this is an incorrect theory). The image from PC 1 is not a factory reset image.

If you what a base image on both PC's.

    1) Set PC 1 for a base image.
    than
    2) Use Sysprep on PC 1 the base image.

    >> I went through the "create recovery drive" process. I used the "make a bootable drive" to a 64GB USB. Doing a reset from that just puts you back to your factory out of the box state. If you are logged on with a live ID you can sync a lot of your personal settings from one PC to the other. Theog, thanks for the instructions on how to make this work . I really do appreciate it. However, I hope I don't have to go this route and remove hard drives. If this is the only way, then that's what I have to do. I read all these tutorials about how to set up a backup image and restore the image. For instance if there is a corrupted OS, they suggest to use an image from a friend's backup image to get it back up and running. Is the way I attempted to restore my image from PC 1 to PC 2 an incorrect process and not possible or did I screw something up (likely if so).
