    DCOM error Win 8.1

    Greetings,

I have loads of DCOM errors in win8.1
"The server {9BA05972-F6A8-11CF-A442-00A0C90A8F39} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout."
Any has any idea on how to solve those ? Its filling out my logs a symptom is a sluggish computer. I can provide more info if needs to be.

    Kind Regards

adamf, thanks for your reply. I am not running avast. The only anti-virus that I have is the one from Windows: Microsoft Security Essential.

So do I. I just looked and I get the same error as you. {078AEF33-C48A-49F7-AFF3-A0EE810BFE7C} is igfxsrvc.settings This is intel HD graphics.

Do you have Intel HD graphics in Control panel? What heppens if you select it? Mine does nothing. I'm afraid I've found the same problem as you rather than being able to help fix it

adamf, thanks for taking the time to respond to me. I have a geforce 770M. The control center shortcut on the desktop for that graphic card seems to be working fine.
PS: How can i find out what element is '{9BA05972-F6A8-11CF-A442-00A0C90A8F39' ? It seems a bit cryptic

My mistake, {9BA05972-F6A8-11CF-A442-00A0C90A8F39} and {078AEF33-C48A-49F7-AFF3-A0EE810BFE7C} are not the same. I was looking at something else, sorry.

You can find it by searching the registry ( R, regedit <enter> ). Then search for it with ctrl F. You will find it here: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID\{9BA05972-F6A8-11CF-A442-00A0C90A8F39} - it shows a default value of "ShellWindows" - see below.

Right click, permissions, advanced and change permission for "Trusted Installer" to your name and click OK.
Right click again, permissions then and grant full control to yourself to this key. This lets you change it in DCOM otherwise it is all greyed out.

Then go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Component Services, Computers, My Computer, DCOM and find ShellWindows as that is what is said in the registry.

Right click and select properties (like below). This is where I'm stuck I'm afraid. For "not authorised" DCOM this is where you change it. For "doesn't respond" I don't know what to do. Perhaps someone can help us but this is the area of the problem I think.

Would you go ahead and copy and paste the entire message. Many of those have two GUID numbers to check. Currently that number shows up as ShellWindows, but mine could be different on this system.

Otherwise, does it seem to happen at any particular time, such as during restarts or waking from sleep? Does accessing something from the Metro APP page cause any errors?

This is what I have. I don't want to hijack the thread if it is different from the OP. I was trying to help and then realised I had the same issue. If it is not the same problem I'll drop out ..

1B562E86-B7AA-4131-BADC-B6F3A001407E is DCOM the other for me (and you) is shellwindows.

Saltgrass and Adamf, thank you so much for your replies. I am attaching a screen shot of the DCOM error. The 9BA05972-F6A8-11CF-A442-00A0C90A8F39 shows up as 'shell window'. It does not seem to appear at a particular moment but rather continous. Symptoms that my unit is suffering from; assuming that the error is causing the symptoms in question (could be wrong), are sluggish system over time until I reboot and logs filling up with that error message.

The event you show is from the 4th, is this the latest one?

The next time it happens, you might check Task Manager and the Details Tab to see if you can find the ProcessID (PID) of what is having the problem. Since the PID might be different after a reboot, you will need to check within the same session the error occurs. It will probably some unhelpful item such as svchost.exe, but maybe it will be more specific.

If you wanted, when you look at the individual errors and right click, there is an option to attach a Task to the event. You may be able to set it up so it gives you some indication it has happened and allow you to pin down exactly when it happens.
