Power Save problem?

I installed Windows 8.1 a month or two ago. I can't say I like the general look of it but it seems reliable enough. However....

About 4 times each day, my hard drive will 'stall' very briefly (as if the power's been removed) and then immediately start up again a fraction of a second later. When this happens I don't see any disturbance on my screen but it's almost as if a power save feature was about to kick in but then changed its mind. I tried disabling all power save functionality but that didn't make a difference. In any case, it usually happens when I'm using the computer so I wouldn't have thought it was a power save issue.

I can multi-boot my PC with both Windows 7 and Windows XP. Neither of them exhibits this problem. It only happens with my newly installed Win8.1.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Did you check the hard disc spin down time in the power plan you are actually using? It's inside the energy options. Set HD spin down time to 0 in all power plans and the HD lags should disappear.

Thanks. I've just reset that option to "never" and I'll report back in a few days if it works!
