Hello all, quick question - if you've made a recovery image backup of Windows 8.1, can you use a Windows 8 recovery USB drive to restore it, or do you need to make a specific Windows 8.1 one?

Thanks,

Make an 8.1 one. Note it is slightly bigger - you need at least 512MB USB - it doesn't fit on 256MB any more.

if you've made a recovery image backup of Windows 8.1,

If you have the option to make a Recovery Image Backup in your Windows 8.1 updated OS.

You need to make a new Windows 8.1 Recovery USB drive.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Follow up question - because I upgraded to 8.1 from 8, I don't have a windows DVD or a iso file. If I ever have to reinstall windows from scratch, will I have to install 8 first again, and upgrade to 8.1?

OK - should have let you know that is a homebuilt PC, that previously had Windows 7 installed on it, and was upgraded to Win 8 online
