Hello community!

I'm writing here with my Desktop, as my Laptop is completely useless right now.

The Problem: Windows Explorer hogs up CPU up until it crashes (15 - 30 seconds after). I cannot recall anything I might have done to change the laptop; it just happenned overnight.

OSystem: Windows 8 Laptop

I'm ready to try anything, as long as its not "just reformat"; I cannot reformat - too much stuff in there. :(

Not sure if it's related to your problem but I remember something similar happening a long time ago on windows xp in explorer too.The problem was only while browsing certain folders... Explorer when attempting to build thumbnails was hanging up on some incompatible or malformed video files. The solution was to disable thumbnails in folder options.

Anyway in your Hijack log, I see a lot of (file missing), this comes from botched uninstalls mainly but there are some windows components missing too, this could be the cause of your system instability.

You could try a windows restore or refresh, it will keep your personal files : How to restore, refresh, or reset your PC - Microsoft Windows Help

If your system is too slow to even start it, try to start windows in safe mode : How To Boot Into Safe Mode On Windows 8 (The Easy Way)

I'd advise running virus/malware scan if you can, I see some entries in your log that seem suspicious like White Smoke toolbar. You can do an offline scan if you can't log in windows from a cd/dvd (you'll have to change your boot settings in bios for that), many rescue cd exist including : kaspersky rescue ( Download Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10 ) or knoppix/clam av ( How to perform an off line virus scan to remove malware | Attack Defend Secure ).
