    Windows 8.1 System Image

I attempted to create a Windows 8.1 System Image for the first time since upgrading from Windows 8.
My external backup drive has 229 GB of free space and Windows 8.1 says that it requires up to 59 GB for the image.
Yet when I initiate the image creation, I get an error message saying that there is insufficient space on the drive. Have tried several times all to no avail. I'm quite puzzled.

I think the whole Windows 8, 8.1 Backup, Refresh, Reset part of the OS is iffy, when going the upgrade route, right now. Hopefully they'll fix it all with the rumored 8.2 upgrade. Macrium free is an excellent backup alternative.

It would appear that the interpretation of the above error message is that it is the System Reserved Partition on C: which has insufficient space. My SR partition is 350 MB and has just 29 MB of free space, but a minimum of 50 MB is needed. There is no unallocated space on C: Is there a way to achieve 50 MB of free space by perhaps shrinking the main partition then extending System Reserved? How might I do this please?

I don't use the restore thing from Microsoft.
    It's junk in my opinion.
I've tested Macrium & find it dependable.

    What is the +1 ?

Looking at the web page, no support for Windows 8.1.

Another vote here for Macrium Reflect free. I have created and restored images of my Windows 8.1 Pro system a couple of times with no problems whatsoever.
