Solved System Image Recovery Password Incorrect

System Image Recovery Password Incorrect - No it's NOT !!!

Hi,

I'm running Win8.0 Pro 64bit in UEFI mode & I have successfully taken a Windows System Image of my PC in preparation for upgrading to Win8.1.

So now I'm testing that I can actually restore my system, so I go to:

PC Settings -> General -> Advanced Startup -> Troubleshoot -> Advanced Options -> System Image Recovery

On the next screen I select my PC Account name (the only account listed) and then enter my password. However, I always get "Password Incorrect. Please try again".

I am 100% certain that I am entering the correct password.

I can restart the PC and login to windows using the same Account & password without any problems. In User Accounts there is only 1 User Account listed which has administrator rights. Nor have I tried to change the password since the System Image was taken.

Does anyone know what the problem might be & how to solve it?

Did you make this image to a network location, and if you did, was a password entered for the image access?

Nope to a 2nd internal HDD.

I guess the problem has stumped everyone.

Not really the answer to your issue but for taking images why not use the well tried alternatives -- either paid for products like Acronis TH 2014 or FREE one's like FREE MACRIUM. Usually infinitely more reliable and certainly easy to use.

You could try booting to the Install Media. It would not ask for a password.

How exactly did you create the image and where it is stored. I realize you are not even getting to that phase of the process, but it might help see why something is going wrong.

I go through the selection (in 8.1) to Advanced Options-Troubleshoot-System Image and the system reboots. My Account is listed, as is yours. So if you are entering your password and not being allowed to continue, there could only be a couple of situations causing this.

One would be you are making some minor mistake in typing your password. There is an option to change keyboards, perhaps you could check to see if anything there made any sense.

If you are doing everything correctly, I would probably go back into Windows and reset my password or even change it to see if something has gotten stuck in the system and giving this utility bad password information.

Are your user profiles in the normal location?

That's exactly what I was doing, except using Win8.0.

I tried a number times, and after it failed the 1st time I was very, very careful entering my password.

I haven't changed my password, although I did consider doing so at the time.

I haven't moved anything, be it, profiles, "My Documents", etc. At the time the PC was a vanilla install of Win8.0 + drivers & not much else.

Agreed ... using another product is not a solution but rather a work-around/bypass. However, after trying numerous times & not finding a solution either here or via Google, that's exactly how I "solved" the problem. I tested several image products and I'm currently using Macrium Reflect Free (and I may even upgrade to 1 of the paid versions).

Since the password problem is not really related to the System Imaging, but to being able to sign into your system in the Recovery Environment, that problem needs to be worked out.

I still suggest changing your password for testing and change it back if it works.

Fixed !!!

It wasn't the password as such (I did change it though & still got the same problem), rather the keyboard layout. I would have presumed that the default keyboard layout would be US, but nope. Mind you, I have no idea what the default was but after trolling through the list of keyboard layouts until I got the US keyboard. I selected that, then re-entered my password & Bingo!

Hi there.

I've had some of these keyboard / password issues too

I logged on to an account at work in Belgium --then at home I found I kept getting INVALID password -- in Brussels I had an AZERTY keyboard while at home I had a QUERTY of either GB or ISL -- so when using these I was getting locked out since I'd set the password with AZERTY keyboard !!!!

Simple solution once you REALIZE what the error is of course -- Why do the French insist on such a ridiculous keyboard layout especially since for their large international businesses the document and business language is usually always in ENGLISH anyway !!!!!! -- in Brussels English is spoken MORE widely than French anyway otherwise FLEMISH (sort of Dutch dialect) is used and that works with a QWERTY keyboard in any case).
