Cant recover system image after crash

Hey Guys, guess what!! My system crashed yesterday. I am trying to recover my image. I boot from the recovery CD that I created when created the system image. The system image is stored on an external hard drive. When I try to recover the image it comes up with an error "Network path not found error 0x80070035". I have shared the folder, I have tried everything that I can think of to fix this. Any Ideas?

    Hi Tinyman,

If you are using a typical USB external drive, and you can access it simply by browsing it via explorer, and you can see the image, then I'm guessing (and only guessing) that you might have a security issue here. Just for kicks, try setting your firewall back to defaults and also try disabling your antivurus. Then reboot and see what happens. Good luck.

I had that thought 10 minutes ago, disabled firewall, rebooted using recovery disc, tried to find the image, same error. I will try again and disable antivirus as well.

My2Cents, thankyou for your earlier reply. I disabled the firewall and antivirus and still have the same problem. I can see the file through the DOS prompt in the advanced section of the recovery cd. I just do not understand why it wont load it. The error is that the network path is not found error 0x80070035. I have been googling this and cannot find a suitable error. I know that the image works as after I created I performed a re-image to make sure. I am open to suggestions.

Do you have an installation disk that you could use as an alternate to the recovery disc you created (assumed) to access the repair functions? Also, do you have a BIOS or UEFI installation? If UEFI, are you getting a UEFI boot prompt when accessing the boot menu? Please confirm this is just a plain ordinary external USB drive and I'm really hoping it is not one of those WD Passports, Toshiba Canvios, or similar because they have special firmware that always seems to throw a monkey wrench into every repair effort.

I do have the Windows 8 Upgrade CD, I will try and boot from that. Yes I did create the image myself about 2 weeks ago using Windows 7 Imaging (Per a tutorial on this site). I am new to this UEFI term, from what I know it is a BIOS installation. The image is stored on a WD "My Book" 2TB external hard drive. I have a Medion Drive-N-Go external hard drive, is it worth moving the image onto that?

Bingo! Somehow I just new that. Unfortunately, I cannot explain why they cause so many issues but they just do! Anyway, if you still have a way to move that image (I'm getting a bit lost again), I would certainly try placing it elsewhere, and if you have a data partition on any internal HD, you could also try placing it there as well (if you can, in fact, relocate it). Good luck and let us know.

BTW, the Windows 8 upgrade disc should work to access the repair function (I'm hoping).

Ok, thanks for that, I will see if I can relocate the image and try again. The Windows 8 Upgrade disc does give you access to the repair functions.

Damn, all of my external hard drives are WD. I have trusted them as quite stable over the last 15 years, but now.....
Thankyou My2Cents for your perseverance on this. I will now have to do a full reload and next week I will go and buy another hard drive. Are they the only ones to stay away from?
