Solved How to stop auto restore points

Hi, I am primarily a "slightly competent" linux user, I dislike UEFI, Win 8 and M$ (in that order, most of the time).

Ok, that's me :(.

New laptop, Windows 8 64bit pre-installed.

Is there any way to stop Win 8 automatically creating restore points, but still allow manual creation of points?
Or at least "protect" important restore points.

I recently decided to restore a manual point to find Win 8 has deleted all of my points and replaced with "others". I realize I could increase the storage area, but I don't want that, as I'm always short of disc space.

Thanks

I see the op has solved his problem, with Brink's help. I have always used the control panel - System - Advanced System settings - System protection, option. Still seems to work in Windows 8.1

Use several different computers during a day, so specs are irrelevant.

Hey Miklo,

I see no need to install a 3rd party program to do the same thing that the included System Restore feature in Windows 8/8.1 already does.

If one likes, they could use these shortcuts to make creating restore points at will using the System Restore feature in Windows. :)

Restore Points

Yes I have used a shortcut script to make a restore point except then I forget to use it :( I use the third party restore point creator cuz the system restore point in my win 8 X64 sux, really bad and doesn't do what I want it to do. Maybe I like to tweak my computer different than most ppl but I have been able to find many third party add on that allow my machine to work as I want and Im sure mine is set up very different than most others, but it works 4me and that's what I go by. I really like this site and have found fixes for a lot of things that just annoy me. For example I eventually found a way to change the generic recycle bins to my choice, but it wasn't easy, i suppose I enjoy tinkering with stuff and I been trying to change things to "MY WAY" since DOS days.....
