Hi there,

I have Windows 8.1 Pro (x64) and want to install Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) :D
So, for the process I want an extra partition. I only have Local Disk C: and want to shrink it to continue
Is Shrinking Partiton and installing Ubuntu in it is possible(without harming my PC).:think:
If you need more info just ask me?:cool:

Hi Andrew and welcome to Eight Forums!

To give you a direct answer to your question. Yes, it is possible to shrink you C drive and install Linux onto the free space.

You have to keep some things in mind though:
  • A special bootloader will be installed by Linux. So you must chose every time you boot the pc if you want to boot Linux or Windows;
  • If you decide you want to delete Linux you must also repair the MBR (Master Boot Record). Otherwise your pc won't boot to Windows directly.

Good luck with it.

ps. Why do you want to try Linux :confused: when there is Windows 8.1 around? Windows 8.1 is just great! :thumbsup:

Hi Der,

Thanks for your word.
I know that GRUB(Bootloader) will be installed because I have dual boot experiences.

Why do you want to try Linux :confused: when there is Windows 8.1 around? Windows 8.1 is just great! :thumbsup:

Ans. I just want to self review and want to test who is the best.:cool:
