Got it! Sometimes the easiest solutions are the toughest to find!

Open an elevated command prompt and insert the following message: "wbadmin delete catalog" (without quotes) and all your restore points will be gone. Recreate a new one as necessary.

Hi David Bailey, I have done as you say and found the folder but when I click on it I get a message saying access is denied. I am set as the Administrator of this PC.

Just seen my2cents post following yours and followed it through and it has done the job. I would still like to know why I am being denied access though...if you can help .

    Regards

    I'll try it out.

I added Take Ownership to the right click context menu.

Take Ownership - Add to Context Menu in Windows 8

I took ownership of the folder in question & it opened for me.

Hi, I added Take Ownership to the right click context menu and it allowed me to access to the System Volume Information folder where I could see the System Restore folder but I was denied access to that folder even though I took ownership of it....so maybe there is a higher level needed for some files.

    Here's a higher level:

    Open Run.

    1) Type secpol.msc in and click ok

    .

    2) Double click on Local Policies then double click on Security Options.

    3) Scroll to the bottom to this entry -

User Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin approval mode.

    4) Set it to disabled then press OK.

    5) Reboot.

    NOTE--

Disabling UAC using this method will break all Metro Store apps until enabled again, and the computer restarted.
    According to Brink.
    He's usually right.
    Yep.They become unusable:

I don't use them anyway, so it doesn't bother me.

No System Restore Points in Performance & Maintenance
Just thought I'd do a system restore point to get over a problem in another thread here and - there aren't any! Shouldn't windows automatically make them? I've had this problem for a year with windows 8 (now 8.1) and I think I even had it with 7. Before that it never seemed to be a problem.
I have used System Restore in Windows 7 to automatically create restore points, but not so in Windows 8 or 8.1. I configured TASKSCHD.MSC for a restore point to be created at 11 pm weekly, but not dice. I just changed the time to create a SR point daily at 7:15 AM to see if a SR point would be...

I am not being lazy, I have sifted through pages and pages of posts about this problem and have yet to find anything that does not either involve dual boot or some complex solution. I am running a cleanly installed standalone Windows 8 Pro X64 system which is not creating system restore points...
Solved No System Restore points in Performance & Maintenance
I've been running Windows 8 since 10/27 and just noticed there were no System Restore points. Doesn't Windows 8 automatically create them when a significant event occurs, like Windows Update? I created one manually but would like to see Win 8 create them.
