Ok then, I will now reinstall that update and provide some screenshot for your review. Maybe you can see something obvious that I am missing. I'll be back shortly. Thanks.

OK, here we go. I've captured screenshots all through the process and keep in mind I had perfect sound at the start; however, once I clicked the finished button at the end, the sound disappeared and an X immediately appeared next to the speaker on the YouTube video. No joy (or sound) on a reboot:

I forgot to add the IE side effects of the above. Start off with no sound. Note the x next to the speaker:

    Checked Shockwave enabled:

Just for fun, tried disabling the above:

Well waddaya know, the sound now works on IE?

But still not working on Firefox. I'm not getting this at all. Anyway, I will figure this out down the road unless someone can see something obviously wrong. Thanks to all. Cheers!

OK team, I even went back to a previous system image and still no joy. OK, I know I said I was done with this issue; however, now it is really bugging me so its time for a clean install right now. I'll be back.

Update: OK, I just completed a clean install, downloaded and applied all Windows Updates to current, setup IE10 preferences, and no sound again! Can someone please confirm their setting for Shockwave Flash Player because it (YouTube sound) did not work on the default setting of enabled. I had to set it to disabled to get the YouTube sound. Again, the only thing I have done is the following:

    clean install
downloaded all Windows 8 Updates to current
    set IE preferences

    No YouTube sound!

This is starting to become a real issue for me because I also have the same issue on my Windows 8.1 laptop yet to be resolved.

    Thanks for the help.

Dag nab it! I think I got it but I'm a bit ticked at IE10 and Adobe. The fix to get Shockwave Flash working (enabled) in IE10 was to make sure that "active X filtering was set". Now, I never touched that dang setting before and I certainly didn't make that mistake twice on 2 different PCs, so what went wrong, when, and where, I have no idea! Anyway, I'll now try the Firefox Flash Update and see if everything turns out peachy this time. Thanks.

OK folks, that's just about it for tonight! I just downloaded Firefox 24.0, which contained the latest Flash Update and still no YouTube audio so I'm back to square one again.

@topguncp: Please confirm your IE10 and FF settings form me again:

IE10: I have Shockwave Flash enabled and active X filtering enable (set).
I have FF 24.0 installed with the latest Flash Update (11.8.800.168) and still no YouTube audio.

    Thank you.

Holy crap. I went back and read 4wd's recommendation again and this time it worked. I guess I didn't actually try it the first time but it sure worked the second time around! Thank you so much for that hint! Now its time to restore my system image and see what happens. I'll be right back!

Unbelievable!! A thousand thank yous to 4wd for that advisory! I would have never guessed or discovered that necessity because I hardly ever visit YouTube. In fact, I only ran across that issue when I tried to watch a video here posted by bassfisher6522 and discovered I had no sound. Anyway, all I had to do was start that slider in both IE and FF and no other changes were necessary. I owe you big-time for that 4wd and also many thanks to topguncp as well for his guidance on this issue. Thanks again. my2cents

    Hello my friend.
If you read closely Post #2 and #3. Both 4WD and myself repeated what you should have done and I thought that you've already tried that. Anyway, I am glad it works now.
    Cheers !!!
