Automatic maintenance - how to deactivate completely?

I'm using Intel Rapid Start function, so my PC is starting from completely off to fully desktop in less than 10 seconds (no POST, no Boot ).
But I must each time remember to stop "automatic maintenance", because if it is running when closing with IRS, then it won't start again. I can find the setting to change the time of running "automatic maintenance", but I want to deactivate it for ever!! I will maintaine my PC myself.

    How to stop this? TIA

    Hello Burgurne,

You could disable the Idle Maintenance and Regular Maintenance tasks in the Task Scheduler Library -> Microsoft -> Windows -> TaskScheduler folder to do so.

Idle Maintenance = Allow scheduled maintenance to wake up my computer at the scheduled time

Regular Maintenance = Run maintenance tasks daily

However, it is not recommended to disabled Automatic Maintenance. Instead, you might consider changing the time to one that works better for you instead.

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you for your help.

But why is it not recommended to stop this AM, when it causes errors? It does start my viruskiller (bitdefender) and runs scanning, and I don't want all that to happend automatic. Only when I do something else, I let it scan aso, and that is not at the same time every day!!

Does AM do anything I can't do myself?

I doubt it but I can't confirm it because I do not have a comprehensive list of every single task that is included in automatic maintenance; however, I can tell you that it is primarily used to start automated processes such as Windows Update, DisK Defrag, and Security Scans with Windows Defender.

So, I have my Automatic Maintenance set to defaults and I have never experienced any PC slowdown or delay because (I believe) I have all the primary maintenance functions disabled as follows:

Windows Updates - Set to notify only.
Disk Defrag - Scheduled defrag is disabled for my SSD (optimize on-demand only).
Windows Defender - An NA for me because I use a 3rd-party AV solution.

Now, if there is anything else running in the background, its impact is minimal because I can't notice any lag in performance.

In addition, the tasks that AM performs are good to help keep Windows in working order automatically for you. Since there's not a known full list of what AM does, it's best to let it automatically perform it's tasks at a time of your choice instead of trying to guess and remember to do them all manually.

It is not because I have an impact in performance, but only that I have to make sure that "Automatic Maintenaince" is NOT doing anything while I shut down my PC using Intel Rapid Start method.
If I could find a way to stop AM from starting BitDefender Internet Security from scanning for virus, I could let it run, but I don't know how to set this up.

Therefore I want to stop AM complete, and make the maintenance myself.

EDIT: I just discovered, that Brink has 4 lines in his "maintenance" window!! I have only 3 lines.
The line named "Maintenance Configurator" I don't have!! Maybe this is my problem?

Brink, will you please post a picture of this task, so I can make this task as it is default?
I don't know why it is missing, but a missing configurator might be a problem, I guess

Hmm... I wasn't aware that automatic maintenance had a direct tie-in to Bit Defender. I know it doesn't have that direct association with Avast.

Okay, maybe I should look at BitDefender instead then!

Please, Brink look at my edit in #6. I'm missing something

Here is a picture of my 3 lines in Task about AM.

There is missing 1 line compared to the picture from Brink.

I wouldn't worry about the task for AM.
