    Hello Kerry,

A couple of usual items to check for this:

    • Did you run this on a laptop or tablet? It will not run on a desktop PC since it doesn't have batteries.
    • If so, then you might try running the command in an elevated command prompt instead?

I ran it on my laptop in an elevated command prompt. It was Windows 8.1 if that matters. My user folders like Documents are not in their normal location, I have them on my D drive.
I tried powercfg /batteryreport /output "D:\battery_report.html" and got the same error message. I'm on my desktop at the moment I'll have another try at it latter on.

Sounds like it may be a permissions issue to where you are trying to save the output at.

    Hello thedodo,

"Design Capacity" is just what is reported by the factory that it's designed to be. However, sometimes you may get lucky by having the actual capacity (full charge capacity) be a bit over the reported design. Over time the actual capacity will reduce though.

Hey everyone! I was wondering if it was possible to get the old, unobtrusive low battery notification from Windows 7 on Windows 8? As it stands, whenever I hit 10% battery, this huge bar pops up right in the middle of my screen and minimizes anything I might be working on. This is fine in most...
OK so Windows used to warn me my battery is low when it is at 10%. However, it no longer does, so it will now shut down without warning me to plug in my charger. Why is it doing this, and what can I do to make it warn me again? It is so ridiculous that I have to restart the computer just...

Hello, my friend got a new Asus Transformer T100 with Windows 8.1. The device was fine. We set up the Microsoft account and updated all the drivers, the firmware, Windows updates, as well as Windows Store app updates. But now the battery indicator is missing! It's not even on the pop-out when...
Solved CMOS Battery/Windows Fail in Performance & Maintenance
So lately the system time on my computer wasn't telling the right time, and every time I changed it, it would just change back.
