    Windows 8 Lag

    Hello Everyone,

So two days ago my windows 8 ran perfect and smoothly until i faced some issues with the windows store and had to refresh windows, so now, after that i had installed everything back "Same programs i had before refreshing" my windows 8 is lagging, and the most annoying part is when i am using firefox where every 2 mins it stops responding for 15 seconds and then goes back to work normally, i have tried using the sfc /scannow in cmd but gave me that the scan is completed and windows is fine, so anyone who faced such lag issues after refreshing windows and managed to fix it?

Note agian, windows ran smoothly before the refresh!

Check to see if there is a process in Task Manager that is using your CPU heavily, it could be a system process which was the issue on my friends PC running Windows 8 and that resolved on its own.

i kind off managed to fix it by changing the power options to "High Performance" instead of balanced, and the cpu usage is actually fine, but the memory usage for firefox and service host: local system is too high

Try using another browser like Chrome and see if the issue still develops, as for local system see if there is a little arrow to the left of the process which will show you what processes make up Local System, that will tell you which specifically is using that much memory. Hope it resolves for you!

Hello, everyone. I have been experiencing the same problem here for almost a week for pretty much the same reasons. I found trouble with some of the apps on Windows 8 so I restored my PC and like mhmdh, I downloaded back everything I had before the system restore. Now, it's not just Firefox, but every and any window I open becomes unresponsive for a few seconds and goes back and it happens every few minutes. I have tried some of the options above. Either I didn't do them right or something else is wrong with my computer.
I at least attempted to try running the sfc /scannow while I was signed in as an administrator but it gave me the response "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service." I changed my power options to high performance but that didn't do anything as well. I do find that the memory usage for Firefox is high and on Task Manager, it shows high Disk Usage when my computer is idle and I have no windows open.
It has been exceedingly irritating and it interrupts my typing multiple times. I have tried for the last hour to try any solutions I've seen, but I've come up fruitless. I would appreciate any help given, thank you.

    Why don't you first run: dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
then run: sfc /scannow <================= Might need to run multiple times

To the OP: Can you Norton Removal Tool for now. Norton is known to cause a lot of problems.
and also remove the ad wares, Valuation software etc ... using: The PC Decrapifier Wipes Unwanted Junk

The dism refused to run. What I got for a response was this:

    Error: 50
DISM does not support servicing Windows PE with the /Online option.
The DISM log file can be found at X:\windows\Logs\DISM\dism.\log

I even tried to run the sfc/ scannow after that to see what would happen and it was the same response as the last time.

Alright, I have noticed something odd for the past few days, so I experimented. If I left my computer to sleep and didn't turn it off, once I reopened it, the browsers and windows open would begin to lag normally. Once I closed them and reopened some after a few minutes, the unresponsive lag would be gone and I could type normally. I had thought it would have been gone, so I shut the computer down; when I turned it back on, the lag returned. I have now left my computer on for two nights just to sleep instead of shutting it off and again, after the browsers and windows slowed down and I closed and reopened them, the unresponsive lag had disappeared. I'm not exactly sure what to deduce from this.

Meh, windows 8 has some serious bugs inside, every time you install it (on the same computer), it runs differently - sometimes everything lags as hell, big delays even for the smallest things, but no big usage of hardware or anything to grab on, sometimes performance is acceptable, and sometimes performance is as great as in windows 7. So i guess the best option would be to play the lottery for the best performance.
