USB Data Transfer Speed

My laptop shows a usb data transfer rate as low as 5MB/s. What can I do to increase it?
The USB interface transfer rate is dependent on the interface (USB 2.0, 3.0), the USB devicen such as flash drives, and the actual size of the data being transferred. Lot's of small files will have low transfer rate, while the large files should transfer close to the max transfer rate of the interface, if the device supports it.

You could try updating the USB driver and/or change the USB device, such as flash drive.

Yes but it might be also because 5MB/s is the USB stick's maximum write speed or that you read and write a lot of small files.
