    Windows 8 freezes randomly

    Hi All,

This is my first post at your forum and I really hope you will be able to help me with this issue.

My computer desktop with the following specs freezes randomly without showing BSOD and running memory dumb. it just freezes completely and locks up.

    Operating System: Windows 8 64-bit
    CPU: Intel Core i3 2120 @ 3.30GHz: 34 C Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology
    RAM: 4.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)
    Motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer INC. P8H61-M LE/USB3 (LGA1155): 28 C
    Graphics: 2343 (1920x1080@60Hz) 1024MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT (CardExpert Technology): 37 C

I updated nVidia drivers as well as the latest updates from Microsoft
I ran a hardware stress test using Prime95, FurMrark and DiskScan for more than 3 hours and the system ran absolutely fine. When I restarted it, it worked fine for like 10 mins and then froze again.

I checked the event viewer and found the this Error:

Driver detected an internal error in its data structures for.
    Source: sptd
    Event ID: 4

Now looking forward to receiving your suggestions.

    Thank you.

SPTD points to a problem with drive (HDD, DVD etc), it's controller, it's drivers or you are using Deamon tools or some other virtual drive software. Are you sure you have MB drivers correctly installed and working ?

SPTD is strictly from Daemon Tools, which if it is not installed, will cause Huge problems.

Before he can delete the SPTD file, it has to be disabled in Device Manager, it will show up under "Hidden Devices" - You have to click up on "View" in the MMC panel and choose "Show Hidden Devices". Then you can disable it. Disabling it SHOULD cause the problems to stop, but getting rid of it is even better.

After that, you have to manually delete the SPTD.sys file in /system32/drivers/

You can use UltraISO or Magicdisk if you want to add a second Disk Mounting program, Windows 8 has a good Disk Mounting program installed by default.
