    Returning to win 7

After upgrading to the Win 8.1 upgrade I have had nothing but problems. My HP wireless printer won't reinstall. None of my backups I made are readable because the Backup functions are no longer in windows. I am told that there is no way to go back to the plain win 8. When I bought my laptop a couple of years ago it had win 7 installed. I made system image disks like you are supposed to. Can I use these disks to put my machine back to win 7? I know I will lose a lot of my programs but most of the data is backed up on external drives

Yes, it will return your laptop to the condition it was when it left the factory...

That sounds like a good idea, I don't see why they would not work. They are bootable right? I would wipe the partition first, before you try the restore. Check the disks to make sure they haven't gone bad for some reason, just make sure they can be seen and read in your system.

If the restore disks do not work, try wiping the drive, and installing Windows 7 Fresh, then try the recovery media again.

    Recommend you do further research.

Did you download Win8 directly from MS without the installation disk ? When you downloaded Win8, did you do a clean install or a separate partition. Does your laptop still have the recovery partition ? If so, would it not have Win 8 ?

Also, have you checked the Device Manager for driver compatibility ? Or "googled" the problems for possible solution.

It is your personal choice, but Win 8 does have some advantages over Win 7.

I suppose if the machine came with Windows 7 it should swallow Windows 7 whole with no problems. You are after all returning to the original OS? Then before you install it, make sure you have all of the drivers and programs that make the Hotkeys and Fn keys function on the system or on a USB drive and ready to be installed.

Usually when I "Downdate" a computer's OS, I simply boot to Hiren's and go into Mini-XP, into Explorer and I Move all of the User accounts folders to another area, and delete all of System Folders, and Program files folders and anything else on the drive that was created by the OS I'm removing. This includes everything in the root folder. That way I can keep the drivers ready to go in a folder off the C drive and they don't get deleted when I install.
