Disk at 100%

Here's what happened.
Yesterday in the morning i was on my laptop (windows 8)
When suddenly, it started going really slow. I restarted it and every time i log into my account, i goes a bit slower, but not too much. Then whenever i open Google Chrome or Internet Explorer, the disk space goes straight up to 100% and doesn't go down. I went into safe mode and it didn't go slow then so it must be something else. I also downloaded AVG and scanned my computer but it found no threats. I have made a new account, which goes slow sometimes but is fine most of the time. Any help? :dinesh::dinesh::dinesh::dinesh:

Hi welcome to eight forums.

If ever you notice some unknown activity you can always bring up the task manager and view the resource monitor tabs to identify.

On my pc I only noticed 100% Disk activity when auto maintenance is running and doing it's thing witch includes defragmentation, deleting temp files, making retore points even if set to not use restore!... unpacking of downloaded updates.

But maintenace can only be lengthy 100% disk use if you yourself are the one to have not done all of that prior to the auto initilize windows of the auto maintanance.

( I have noticed that automaintanance is very much more active on a setup that never gets enough standby time to allow for that feature to complete its thing. )

Every time its interupted by say internet activity or installing or uninstalling stuff, or for the fact of the matter by user activity whilst busy will mostly make the task go from the start again... again... thats just the best method too defragment a drive and if given the time it does do good for pc performance.

Post a screenshot of your resource monitor's disk tabs: fully extended: then some one here can help you find out if its normal activity thats just been interupted and never got finished or if you have a real trouble with something you have installed.

Yes true as you said ... and very noticeable in your sreenshot by those high process ID entries or those processes where you can identify increased acitivity could very well be the culprit of your disk 100% in use situation.


Only advice I can now still give you is to do a web search on those with the high process id's running in the multi~thousands and the entries with unbalanced acitvity and get to know if on your pc these are something you need or not and then take appropriate measures to regain your pc's available performance.
