Hello,
I hv updated Win8 Pro from Win 7 Home Premium on when Wind 8 released.

I really felt that Win8 was fast and reliable. But now for one month ( after win 8 update ) its too slow to boot and takes too long to sign out and shut down. Apps takes too long to open. I didnt install any new apps.

How can I fix this? If this is from Win8 updates or any other issues?
I tried ccleaner, clean startups, fix registries. BUt still its slow.

Need help.
Thank you

My conf:
Dell Inspiration 620 - i5 3Ghz, 500GB hdd, 4GB DDR3, 1GB Radian 6450.
Antivirus - Kaspersky Internet security 2013

Hello therainmaker, and welcome to EightForums.

Have you done a complete scan of your system? Just to make sure. I don't think a Windows update might be responsible for this. How many background processes are you running? Having a bunch of programs that boot with your system will slow down your overall computer performance.

For example, I tend to have people ask me why their computers are slow, and the first thing I see is them having 10+ useless background programs running.

Thanks for the reply Skulblaka,
I hv removed all unwanted startup apps. Only Antivirus, Livedrive, ATI catalist will run on startup.

And, Yes, I hv done a compete Virus scan by Kaspersky Internet Security.

Looking at your hardware, your computer seems powerful enough. This is not a hardware issue.

Check to see if you have any additional updates in Windows Update.

Are you able to install Malwarebytes? I don't trust Kaspersky to do a good job... I want to completely remove all doubt that this is not a computer infection.

Also, it's possible that upgrading your computer from a previous version of Windows might be a contributing factor. It's best to simply do a clean install of the system to start "fresh".

Everything looks okay... your running programs are not an issue then.

Take my previous suggestions into consideration. You can still try to check for a computer update, and a complete computer scan with Malwarebytes.

I agree. I would hesitate to do that unless I covered all possible options. Honestly, aside form a clean install, I'm a little stumped. Hardware is fine, running processes are good. I don't believe you have an infection that you're not aware of.

Another guess I would consider is you running those "computer cleaner" and "registry fixer" software. They tend to break things more often than solve.

Actually... you can refresh your computer through "PC Settings" without it affecting your files (programs will be removed). This way your operating system will be reinstalled without you having to do a lot of work aside from re-installing your programs.

You can find it here...

Click Change PC settings.

Go to General and you will see the Refresh your PC option...

A disk defrag won't produce very noticeable results today. Our hard drives are fast enough not to be bogged down by "clutter". It's worth trying though...

How much free space does your hard drive have? A hard drive can slow down when there isn't much free space available on the hard drive.
