I am trying to use dism/online/cleanup-image/restorehealth tool in an elevated command prompt to fix corrupt files that sfc/scannow is unable to repair. I keep getting this error message below:

Hello pbm, and welcome to Eight Forums.

No worries. You are just entering the command incorrectly. It should be this below with the spaces instead:

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/26512-dism-fixing-component-store-corruption-windows-8-a.html

Just to note, that dism doesn't repair corrupt files. Instead it fixes the component store that SFC uses to fix corrupted files instead.
Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

not trying to contradict you.
But I havent been able to understand this because

I ran sfc /scannow and got results saying it found corrupted files but couldnt replace them.

I ran dism and after it finished, ran sfc scannow and got results that there was no corrupted files and everything was fine, which means that the problem was fixed before sfc even ran. even the cbs log said everything checked out fine.
