    Read backup file

How can you read what files were backed up to a backup disk?

    Hello Jackman,

If these are files from a Windows Backup, then you could start the restore form backup process just far enough to scroll through the file in the backup to see.

Backup - Restore Files and Folders from in Windows 8

    Hope this helps,

Thanks Shawn. I recall seeing a screen shot somewhere where you could go into File Explorer and look at the backup drive and see a complete list of all files. Seems there were many file folders and you could open each and pick a file to restore or the complete folder you were looking at. Am I dreaming!! Anyway, I will keep your tutorial on hand for future reference.

The reason I am asking this question is that it seems that the backup didn't get all the data files I thought would be included in the backup and restore.

Sure, you could also manually navigate to and browse through the backups from the location in the note box at the top of the tutorial above.
