Is there a way to make an image of 8 with all apps, data

When I first got my new laptop I made and image using Asus backup restore but all it did was make a copy of the restore partition on the hard drive. Is there a way to make an image of what the computer is with all the data and programs there are installed? I had to do a restore and then I had to reinstall everything and reload all my data files. This took a long time to do. It would be so much easier to just have an image of everything just the way it is now.
Will I need a third party software to do this? And if so which one is the best?

You can use the Windows system image.

System Image - Create in Windows 8

    or

The only 3rd party software that I know of, that fully supports Windows 8 & is signed by Microsoft .

Paragon 12 paid for has support for Windows 8 UEFI, GPT & Secure Boot.

PARAGON Software Group - partition manager, drive backup, hard disk partitioning

or could consider SSR Desktop Edition

Paragon is some good software, I used it for years to completely move Windows XP from one drive to another. The newest version should accommodate all of your needs - It would probably be easiest to completely dupe the drive

I use Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download. I use it on Windows 7 and Windows 8 and it works great. I have my data on a separate partition than the OS and can select which partition I want to back up.

As others have noted, there are quite a number of solid imaging applications. That is what you want, something to take an image of your machine the way that it is at a certain point in time.

    I've used
    Acronis True Image (not free)
    Macrium Reflect Free (free)
Paragon Backup and Restore (not free)
    Aomei Backupper (Free)
Microsoft imaging tool (Free with the OS).

All have worked for my intended purposes over the past few years. They have saved me a ton of time. With Windows 8, Paragon Backup and Restore is the one that I am using these days.

Thanks for info. I downloaded and installed Paragon and did a complete backup of My complete system. I backed it up on a 3 tb usb 3 drive. I was surprised it only took about 45 minutes. I also saved all my history and data file from windows so I am double safe. Again thanks to all. I will mark solved.

    Paragon is the fastest available.

It is worth checking the provided linux based restore media works with your hardware.

I find paragon considerably slower than acronis, but have found it works better for me with uefi and Windows 8..so I accept the time difference.

    Settings>Image Options>Untick control archive integrity.

Not clear to me why they bother with that.
