Slow boot speeds and other issues

Alright, so to start, I've been having some boot issues with W8 lately. It's fast and all, and I've optimized it to my liking, disabled Hibernation, but still, booting is long. The OEM boot logo is fast, but from then I just get a black screen for about a minute until it boots. This is annoying since it takes a while, sometimes even 2 minutes.
Another odd thing is that I cannot shut off UEFI from BIOS. If I set it to Legacy BIOS on my Acer, I get the Intel PXE can't find boot media screen, and have to switch it back. Is there anyway for me to set Legacy BIOS to on, or should I forget about it? I'd like to know how to get the Legacy BIOS setting to work, and make W8 boot faster if possible.

Thanks for the help.

EDIT: If needed, here's my OS info. I am running Windows 8 Pro x64.

If you prefer a faster boot time, you should enable hibernation and turn fast boot on. If you do this, you should restart the system from time to time to keep the system stable. A restart performs a normal startup (as you have now) and all start up items and drivers will be set up freshly.
The Fast Boot should speed up boot time appreciable.
Since I don't have UEFI, I leave it to someone else to answer that part of the question.

What is this file? BootCKCL.etl? Is this for UEFI/Legacy BIOS?

Windows 8 automatically creates а log of every boot in ETL format. This file helps analyzing boot issues instead of pure guessing.

Hi yeniceli2001,

Based on this log, it seems your NVidia service is responsible for the first delay. It's starts early in the game, and then nothing else starts until 39th second. During this period there's not much CPU activity, but your HDD usage is close to 100% (actually, it's true for the whole boot duration, meaning you need an SSD if you want to a decent boot time).

There's also something strange happens at 137th second. HDD usage goes down, and CPU usage goes up.

boot1.png

conhost and netcfg kick in per the log below. I'm not sure why this is going on, and neither I can tell why slui.exe is in there.

Is your system legally activated?

What you also have is a bunch of .NET Framework executables running at startup. Perhaps, they are related to Visual Studio.

Recommendations for further troubleshooting:
1. Use
• msconfig to disable start up of third party services such as Team Viewer, Nvidia, Abbyy, etc (except your antivirus)
• task manager to disable start up of third party software not critical to your activities
See instructions here. Reboot and go to step 2.

2. Download Windows ADK, install Windows Performance toolkit, and create a full boot trace.

No problem. If you don't feel like troubleshooting and making logs, just set the above services startup type to Manual in services.msc, remove unwanted items from startup, reboot, and run defrag /b c: on the command prompt.

Then reboot again and post the result of the PowerShell command to measure the improvement.

Code:
Get-WinEvent -maxevents 5 -FilterHashtable @{logname="Microsoft-Windows-Diagnostics-Performance/Operational"; id=100} | fl *
