Hello Dan Here!
-
I've been dealing with this for days and still have it happening as im typing this. Ever since a few weeks back, my PC has been really messed up. When i start up my PC i sign in as normal and all is fine...untill about 10-20secs later, when my PC has CONSTANT lag spikes causing sound to distort and make awful sounds! I have used DPC Latency Checker and i have LOTS of Red bars all the way up to the top of the chart. It says i have misbehaving drivers but i have gone through all the devices (Well most of them...there are alot) in my device manager that i know isnt that important and disabled, then re-enabled them, and i have had no success. I tried a program called "Speed up my PC" which checks for registry errors, and it said there were alot! I was happy then because i thought i found the problem...but then i used the program to fix them and still...SO MANY LAG SPIKES! I then used the free trial version of drivermax, a program that checks for outdated drivers, but still no success (Btw dont use drivermax, it gives you the wrong drivers causing you to have to re-install them all over again). I've checked LOADS of forums over the web but no success either. Ive never posted a thread on a forum before because normally someone else has the same problem and i can fix it how they did, but this time im not so lucky. Thanks for listening to me ramble on for ages, but i really need to fix this as im a heavy PC gamer and need it to get the stress off from all the school work!

Windows 8 Compatibility: The DPC latency utility runs on Windows 8 but does not show correct values. The output suggests that the Windows 8 kernel performs badly and introduces a constant latency of one millisecond which is not the case in practice. DPCs in the Windows 8 kernel behave identical to Windows 7. The utility produces incorrect results because the implementation of kernel timers has changed in Windows 8 which causes a side effect with the measuring algorithm used by the utility. Thesycon is working on a new version of the DPC latency utility and will make it available on this site as soon as it is finished.

DPC Latency Checker for Windows 7, Windows 7 x64, Windows Vista, Windows Vista x64, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 x64, Windows XP, Windows XP x64, Windows 2000

Beside that, I get normal values:

I use Driver Genius Professional to check my drivers, if I'm too lazy to do it manually.

Looks like a fresh Windows-Install should be the fastest option to see if it's driver related, as your system should run without any issues with standart drivers.

Then you should just check your latency again, after every driver-update. If you get after a fresh-install of Windows straight trouble, then it could be maybe Hardware related.

Just completely re-installed windows 8 and have had no problems so far :D . I have just checked DPC latency checker and its much better!

Now i only have one problem...I have to install Battlefield 3 (20GB!) AND all the DLC (About 25GB!) ALL OVER AGAIN!

Thanks for the help i really appreciate it! I will mark this as solved in about an hour when i know its definitely working!

Spoke to soon... Just about a minute after i posted the previous post, the lag spikes returned:

DPC....png

I have a theory though... Maybe its Windows 8?

When i was re installing Windows 8, i had to install Windows XP because i have got the download version of windows 8 which requires an operating system to install it. while i was in XP everything worked perfectly! I was in XP for along time because i had to somehow get the drivers for my network adapter without internet connection, and there were no problems!

This makes me wonder...
Are some parts of my computer (Network adapter etc.) not compatible with Windows 8, but are with Windows XP?
...or...
Is there just a general problem with windows 8, that i may have been unlucky to run into?

Hope i can get a reply to this quick so i can get this fixed!
Thanks

-Dan

EDIT: The Lag spikes are no longer constant, they will ocasionaly start but will then stop after a while. for the last 5mins or so i have had (once again) no problems, but im sure the spikes will strike again soon.

I am not sure what is causing it however i disabled windows search index service and my lag spikes are not so constant either. But it does not seem to be hardware related because i am running windows 8 64x i7 3630QM with a 650m 2gb vram 8gb ram dual HDD 1tb +500gb and i get the huge lag spikes as well. Many theories floating around but disabling the windows search helped me out alot. Also make sure you have no external hard drives attached.

There is no need to re-download BF3 if you backed-up the Origin-Folder.

Maybe it's normal to get the spikes sometimes.

Have a look at my System and see how many hardware I have connected.

My System never freezes.

Edit:

I let the Latency Checker run for a longer period of time and had no spikes at all.

:)

What programs do you have running tonschuh? startup and such A/V anti-spyware or malwayre? Super Anti-Spyware and malwayre bytes as well as eset and bit defender (installed the bit defender and eset on separate clean installs) and all would spike even when not scanning or updating at the same time as system would causing severe lag lol. So at one point it would be eset and system or bit defender and system or malwayre bytes and system etc

What application is that that shows your CPU usage gpu etc? I would love that. Ahh so my speculation may be correct in assuming the spikes have something to do with the combination of malwayre spyware and anti viurs software. Since mine usually spiked with 2 or more installed.

I've fixed the lag spikes! I cant tell you exactly what i did to fix these but ill tell you what i did...
First i replugged all my gpu, cpu and hard drive cables as some may have been loose
Then i went through device manager again and this time found 2 mice and 3 keyboards in there, i found the ones i was using and disabled the other ones.

One of the things above fixed this problem and i think it may have been the duplicate mice and keyboards doing something.
So give these a try and hopefully one will fix yours!
