Solved Hibernate or Shutdown?

I am under the impression that both method uses same amount of power in terms of power saving feature. Hibernating makes it quicker to load windows instead of full boot up from shutdown but hibernating the system can also cause errors. Thus, the slow down and reboot. What would you recommend?

I use shutdown with hybrid boot.

Given shutting down with hybrid boot (as pparks1 mentioned) logs the user off and then hibernates the kernel, it reboots quite fast (usually faster than a full hibernation), I generally recommend sleep (for short periods) and shutdown at the end of the day. Unless you have a specific reason to leave your applications that you have open running and doing a full system hibernation, shutdown (with hybrid boot enabled) is potentially a better option.

I use mine as an HTPC so there are some programs there that I want to leave open until I get back. Sleep is not an option as I leave it for longer period of time. I will give the hybrid shutdown a try. Thanks for the input.

Way to go ! I only shutdown/restart after updating Windows or installing a new app.

Hibernate/hybrid are great features if you are on the move and need to reopen sessions in a hurry for customers or whatever. But, certainly in my case, and, I am sure, the majority of home users, either have little purpose in daily usage. Sleep mode is quick and efficient and, if that is your wish, off at the end of the day.
