Hi!

I recently purchased Dell inspiron 17r and due to problems in the first model I had to run win 7 on it for few days, and games like far cry 3 darkness 2 ran fine on it. After a replacement pc, I installed the same games(on win 8) but they lag, especially when the cut-scenes are played, the audio and video are out of sync in Far Cry 3, Tomb Raider(the latest one by MS) and darkness 2, why and how to solve this?

I run all the games on 1280x800 resolution with low settings on Win8 however on win 7 I ran them on 1366x768 with low settings and it worked fine. Thanks for your input.

Was the replacement laptop another Dell 17r? If so, which model... 17r-n7110 or a different model? Did it come with Win 8 pre-installed? If self-installed, have you downloaded all the necessary drivers from the Dell website? Is the OS x32 or x64?

The 1st thing I would suspect are old drivers...

Hey norepli, both the original and the replacement systems are Dell Inspiron 17r (7720) and in both instances Win 7 and Win 8 are manually installed by me. All of the drivers are updated to the latest ones. The system as well as the os is 64 bit.

I'd like to add that Assassin's creed 3 is working fine(as it did in win 7 too). I wonder if directx 11 is better suited to Win 7 than 8.

Hi kapz,

If everything is up to date (ie, drivers, BIOS, etc) and you can play some games on Windows 8 without issue, then it may, in fact, come down to a game design issue. If so, my suggestion would be to post your issue on the specific game forum (in question) to see if others are having a similar problem (eg, runs OK on Win 7 but lags on Win 8). Now, I (personally) opt to play all those games on the Playstation 3 console and the only game I ever had trouble with was the Mass Effect series. Now, they are clearly an example of poor game design! So, I just finished the new Tomb Raider and now I'm off to start God of War: Ascension! Hope you can get to the bottom of this issue. Good luck.

Graphics driver was the culprit. Nvidia released a new driver which fixes all the performance issues.
