Difference in Start Up times Shutdown vs. Restart

I have been running Win 8 on my ASUS Q200E Laptop with Classic Shell for a couple of months now and have been puzzled by the difference in the startup times between a cold, power off start up and a restart startup.

On a cold startup, the desktop is completely ready to use in about 20 seconds. With a restart, it takes about 38 seconds to get to the same point.

Will someone try to explain the difference to me?

    Thank you.

Yes, it's the hybrid boot functionality that gives you the faster cold reboot times. It uses the hibernate file when it shuts down to increase the speed in which it can start back up. A reboot does not do this.

Go to Control Panel, search for Power, click "Change what the power buttons do", click on "Change settings are are currently unavailable", scroll down to Shutdown Settings. There is a Learn More link which you can use to get more information.

Thank you pparks1. I thought it must be something like that but doesn't writing to the file slow down shutdown?

If it does slow down shutdown, it's only by a very small amount of time. My laptop shuts down in under 5 seconds with my SSD. And it cold boots in 9.5 seconds from a power button press the next day.
