    Win 8/explorer 10 slowdown

    Hello
I read a MS article that said to block both boxes, i.e., 'block all incoming connections' and 'notify me etc'. in both private and public network settings.
Win 8/explorer 10 needs a right click>refresh to speed it along many times when web browsing.
I have a router but never noticed this slowdown from XP through Win 7 until Win 8.
I wish I had a couple of things I could try to speed it up.
Is the firewall setting the reason or is there another feature I can look at to speed it up?
    Thank you
    Peter

I wonder if resetting explorer would help???

FF has small script or letters. I know I can click on shift + or click view zoom but how do you "keep" the size as large as you would like?

it would not hurt to try a reset of ie ,it didn't help me ., in FF i think if you go to view and Zoom and zoom in it will go bigger and stay that way until you change it back

    >>I don't think I will reset it then. It seems that when i enlarge FF it is ok till i restsrtit and the size reverts to smaller again.
Btw, do you have your firewall set so it looks like the attachment. that is how the MS article said to do it but i wonder if checking the incoming is slowing it down?

It won't be due to the firewall blocking incoming connections. Unless you need something to establish a connection to your computer (such as remote access, file sharing, etc.) then leave block all incoming connections on.

When you're web browsing, they are outgoing connections. Even though traffic is travelling both ways, it's your computer/browser that initiates the connections and is therefore outbound.

    firewall

I will check to block incoming; odd that everyone I talk with and all the tutorials have the incoming unblocked.

I read it should be blocked if in a café for example.

Install NoSquint add-on allows you to adjust the text size and stay at that size whenever you open Firefox. That's what I am using. After installing the add-on, click on Option and set it to the zoom percentage that you want.

I don't use IE10 but I think you might have some add-ons/Toolbar installed without your knowledge. Download Autoruns for Windows and run it as Admin, click on Internet Explorer Tab. Uncheck everything, Reboot and try again. If surfing speed is improved then one of those add-on cause it to slow down.

If you restart on the same website then yes, it'll remember text size you set, but if you open another website, it might change the text size again. With the add-on mentioned above, it will stay at same text size all the time.

    Hope this help !!!

Win 7 got a bit notorious for issues related to long (30 - 60 sec) pauses when moving, copying, or deleting files, mostly on the LAN but also at times on local disks. Some of this was attributed to thumbnails, opportunistic locking (SMB2.x and FCB), folder size, and TCP parameters such as offload...
