    Reset bios?

I recently got my laptop back after having a new HDD fitted. The technician told me to reset my BIOS.Could anyone tell me if this was necessary and what difference it would make to my laptop?

I had been having problems with my laptop sticking at various tasks e.g.windows updates, disk clean up,SW updates, launching yahoo, browsing etc. They diagnosed the problem as a faulty hdd,and was collected to fit one. When I got it back,I had similar problems as before and when I phoned them,They told me to reset the bios.It seems to be working ok at the moment but the problem was intermittent and I am not sure if it is going to stay o.k.

I didn't make the OEM manufacturers Recovery Disks when I got the laptop.
Sorry to be so thick but can I ask you a couple of questions.

1.If I do a factory restore and then create a backup on an ext.HDD,would this be the same as the above Recovery Disks?
2.The links give a lot of good information to me but I can't find the links to creating disks.Could you help me further?

    Thank you!
