    windows 8 sleeps or hibernate!!confused

I have just upgraded from windows 7 to 8. as we knw there is no hibernation option in windows 8. but tonight i left laptop on and fall sleep when i waked up ,no indicator was blinking (as happens in sleep mode) but when I powered on it resumed the runing program.so my question is how did it hibernate.?does win 8 hibernate when inactive for long although it has no hibernet option? please

My laptop falls to sleep in 30 minutes of not seeing a key press or mouse movements. At 180 minutes, it goes to hibernate. Win8 defaults I guess for laptops on ac, maybe desktops too. 15 min to fall asleep when running on battery.

Look in your Power Options, you can change it to whatever you like.

Hibernate is there, its just not shown. Switch it to show it if you want from the Power Options, on left margin... Change what the power buttons do. Advanced options.
There you will see a check box to enable the hibernate button.

It's a HP Pavilion 23 desktop. New. Windows 8. For 2 months it's never done that. When it comes out of sleep it comes to the lock screen and then asks for a password.
