Windows 7 deletes Windows 8 restore Points

To let you know, I have tried all the recommendations that you showed in your links long ago - DosDevice renders the partitions inaccessible and the other option does not do anything. What MS is doing is making the user irrelevant and making other OSs very appealing.

One of the forum administrators can probably do better writing this up then I have and maybe have a logical answer for why it works:

I believe that I have finally found something that works: I mounted Windows 8 into a folder in Windows 7 and have rebooted three times and the restore has held. The tutorial indicated above shows that the drive space on the Windows partition containing the mount required space, but I did not experience this, my space was virtually unchanged.

If \DosDevices\ is being used, it will have to be set to "0" to get access to the partition to mount and it will not any longer be required - it can be deleted from the registry if so desired.

Went back through all my steps and had an error in this post; here is the step-by-step procedure:

(Note, the mounting of Windows 8 into a folder is not necessary)

    1. Turned on restore point for Windows 8 in Windows 7.
    2. Booted into Windows 8 and created a restore point.
    3. Booted into Windows 7.
    4. Booted back into Windows 8 and the restore point was still available.
