Windows 7 deletes Windows 8 restore Points

This is too much fun; got to keep it going.

When I look at "System Protection", it lists all my partitions. If I turn on all the bootable partitions and create a restore point, will it restore all the partitions? The reason being that if I use Windows 7 to do this, can I restore Windows 8 on a different partition?

    bump!

I just created a restore point for Win7 and Win8 on Win7 partition and it saved something. Space for the Win7 backup is 150.36MB and Win8 is 336.34MB. In both cases I had it configured to save system setting and file versions. The restore does not show when booted into Win8; without upsetting Win8, does anyone know if the Win8 restore point will work from the Win7 partition?

Am I getting the answer that no one knows the answer to this?

It looks like you're confusing system restore points with some other backup features. System restore points are kept in shadow copies on the same volume. If you want to use dual-boot and keep restore points from deletion, see

If I go to any partition, it gives me a list of all partitions under "System Protection" and I have to configure which ones I want to create a restore point for. If I turn on the configuration for both Windows 7 and Windows 8 on the Windows 7 partition, will it create a restore point for Windows 8 that is usable?

Yes, it will be usable, but only for restoring certain file types that reside on this partition. It won't help to rollback OS problems.

ok, so this would not resolve the problem with restore points getting deleted and the issue is not going away... thanks Vadikan.

I don't mean to lecture you, but one thing is clear judging by the timing of your posts. You haven't taken much time to read the two articles I linked to, leave alone try the solutions they provide.

So you choice is simple: do just that, or keep complaining about the problem not going away. It's all in your hands.

I don't see any way to reply to this, but be blunt since I have been reading on this forum and other forums for weeks because of a Windows bug that they are not going to fix because of lack of intelligence. Before you start chastising, be sure you have "all" the answers.

I don't have all the answers, because just one is enough Deletion of restore points in dual-boot configurations is by design, as Microsoft calls it. Whether you consider this a bug is irrelevant. What's relevant is that the methods outlined in MS KB are the only options you have if you need these restore points.

P.S. I'm not considering the option that the issue is caused by 3rd party software, like defrag, because after reading all forums you should've eliminated it by now.
