In XP on my desktop, I could go into Control Panel >> Display and under the Appearance and Advanced buttons, I could modify the way my screen looked with great ease.

On my laptop running Win 8, I can't find the route to do this.

Can anyone help me please?

Michael.

It really depends on what you want to change. You may look at Personalize by going to the Charms Bar > Settings > Change PC Settings as an example.

I think it's the way Windows 8 works, there is no longer a 'basic' or 'classic' appearance, there's always a theme applied. Therefore the way to customise the entire appearance would be to construct a theme to your requirements. It must be hard to do! Because I'm not aware of anyone having, for example, made a proper 'Classic' theme yet - just variants of the High Contrast themes with different colours. There are programs and registry settings for some of the windows elements, though.

well ... as i said, i want to change the window colour and the fonts etc. ...
unfortunately, change pc settings doesn't give me what i want.
the attached jpg file shows what i'm looking for.
i'm not particularly bothered about losing the 'basic' and classic' looks but would loke tp get access to the advanced window.
i fully appreciate that win8 is not xp but yesterday, i saw in instruction and a photo of the same as my attachments in a forum so there must be a way of making these changes.
trouble is, i forgot which forum but am still looking.
thanks so far.
michael.
