Bad default for memory dumps in Windows 8

I just found out Windows 8 writes a memory dump to %SystemRoot%\MEMORY.DMP instead of C:\Windows\minidump and the "Overlay any existing file" box is checked by default. This seems pretty stupid to me as it will limit you to one dump. No way to see what happened with the previous dump.

What happens if I uncheck "Overlay any existing file"? Will multiple dumps then be kept?

Found similar posts, but none of the solutions worked for me. The PC crashes, typically when there is heavy load, and the sound sort of repeats itself until the BSOD and CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT appears. I run a desktop with Intel CPU and Windows 8. Dump is attached. Thanks for any help.

After my new build froze up during boot up into Windows 8, I tried to run Windows 8's built-in Windows Memory Diagnostic, extended setting, but it got stuck at 21% of 1st pass (10% overall) after running it overnight (at least 12 hours). I had 4x4GB memory modules, and re-ran this test with only...
