How often do you clean your pc?

I try to give my pc a thorough cleaning every three months. Then I dismantle the entire pc and clean every part of it. Making it dustfree etc. By doing this I try to avoid the clogging of dust. Also the pc stays silent when runnig due to the fact that the fans don't have to work very hard to keep the pc cool.

Here are some pics of my pc after I finished cleaning it.

So I was wondering. Is cleaning your pc every three months too much? How ofter do you all give your pc a good makeover?

I use cases with dust filters on the intake. They have stayed almost dust free for years.

It has been quite some time since I cleaned mine. Maybe I should take a look at it.

Sometimes I bend down and give it a nice blow to the fan, does that count?

Does anyone else notice that their keyboard gets dust on all the keys that they don't use? o.0

I clean my systems whenever I open the box for another reason - e.g. installing a SSD or PCI-e card. But that is the rare case. Hate to crawl under the desk and unwire everything.

I suppose that if you have a dog or cat or if you have a lot of children running around raising a lot of dust, it would be more important to clean your computer on a regular basis. But at my age I and my wife don't move around that fast any longer and don't raise much dust.

But unfortunately there will always be dust no matter how slow we move.
Got one attic for instance where nothing moves and there's a layer of dust that settled with ages.

Just like snow in Antarctica or Greenland:
-it snows a few centimeter/inches a year and somehow after thousands of years there's the thickest layer on the planet!

    Hi there
I have one Linux file and print server that's been up for nearly 12 months just stuck away in a closet -- I daren't even THINK of opening the case --it would surely fill a large Vacuum cleaner's dust bag. !!!

Server is logged on to using VNC and a remote console so there's no monitor attached to it --it's just a box stuck away doing its job quite nicely.

I'm not sure in general whether "PC cleaning" in normal use is worth the effort. OK once you open the case to change / add hardware then yes --another issue-- but coming from an Engineering background my primary instinct is "If it ain't broke don't fix it".

Especially if the PC is old -- some connectors etc can be quite easily and accidentally damaged so my gut feel is especially on older gear to leave well alone unless you have to do something with it.

I clean the air intakes a couple times a year or if I happen to be doing something else in the box. Never clean inside the box; hasn't needed it.

I used to just leave the side panels off with a 20inch box fan blowing in. No old dust at all, just beach sand.
