Thanks! I've decided on the I5-3570k, the ASUS P8Z77-M Pro, 16GB of G.Skill RipJaws DDR3, ANTEC 620 water cooler and all else stays the same for me. I'm giving my wife the trusty Q6600 motherboard, 6GB of RAM and the Intel DG43GT motherboard, as tat is a perfect setup for her...

    Thanks.

    It's a Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced.

It's very big and roomy. The pictures might not do it proper justice because those speakers are big and the physical desk is a monster.

I used to have an NEC XP21 inch CRT monitor and it weighed about 100 pounds (probably not true, but it was heavy). So I built a big desk for it.

Any reason why you don't want an i7 CPU?

To much money, and likely no real need for the higher cpu cycles would be my guess.

A bit similar to my older model in many ways. I have the P8P67 and 16 GB Ripjaws X. I did not go for water cooling.

I was able to get the i7 to run flawlessly at 4.8 GHz, and it did not exceed 70C. But I read a lot of evidence that overclocking increases problems and decreases longevity, so I cut back to 4.4 Ghz.

I do a serious amount of high CPU work with audio tools like Reaktor and many tracks of soft synths so I really enjoy the performance of the i7.

I don't have any games or much need for graphics other than the usual.

    The Ripjaws are incredibly fast.

    Good choice mate.
The 3570k is Ivy Bridge, supports slighter higher frequencies and is more (energy) efficient and fast.

I use this particular machine to run VMWare Workstation VM's. Hence the reason that I opted for 16GB of RAM..
Good idea... I was also considering a 16GB upgrade since my laptop supports it.
My VM's will benefit from that too.

I'll go to Crucial for the memory ,when I'll decide to upgrade, since I'm familiar with their site and products.

Those are some nice looking rigs. Mine is somewhere in the middle. My cables are zip tied but not hidden. My case isn't suited to running the cables up under and out of site. The power cables on my supply aren't long enough anyway. Maybe on my next build.

I'm ordering everything tomorrow, so I'll be building the rig in less than a week. I would like to get a better case, but my budget won't allow it and the current case will work fine for now. I never seem to go more than 2 months without tearing my system apart, anyway. I'll take pictures along the way and document the build so others can use it if they want... The ANTEC 620 water cooler is very cool and I can't wait to install it!
