I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on this and I've decided to get this:

    1. ASRock Z75 Pro3 motherboard
    2. Intel i5 2500k (I WILL overclock, after all!)
    3. 16GB RipJaws RAM
    4. Radeon HD 7740 GPU (I am not a gamer)
    5. Antec Kuehler 620 water cooler for CPU

I'll reuse my case, drives, power supply, etc...

I've just changed my mind again... I am researching the ASUS P8Z77 series and I like those, so I may get one of those to go with the 15-1500k... Motherboards are the hardest thing for me to decide on...

I have the Asus p8z77-vlk on my desktop at work. No problems. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Must be a trick question. I do care. Do I do it? Not exactly. Weird, perhaps, but I try to go for a visually attractive, artistic sort of cable display--with swirls, loops, and graceful spans, etc. Let's see if I have a decent photo. You'll hate it. PC is different now. See specs.

I use Flexi Ties on the cable bundles to keep them all tight.

I put museum tack on the small usb cables running around the physical desktop to keep them in place.

Thank you for that! I'm seriously considering the ASUS P8Z77-V LX to go with an Intel i5-2500k. I think that motherboard will provide what I need so I don't have to pay for features that I'll never use. I'm not a gamer, and I'll never use more than 1 video card, so I think this is the best board for me. I know ASUS makes good products and I prefer them over Gigabyte slightly...

I'm not a gamer, at least not at work. I got a good deal on the LK model when I was building this particular computer, so I went with it. I'm not even using a dedicated graphics card, the built-in Intel HD4000 graphics in my Core i7-3770 is what I am using. The board was very easy to setup and connect. It's been quite stable. The newer UEFI BIOS is nice and straight-forward and there are a couple of buttons on the mobo and within the BIOS to apply small overclocks automatically. That is what I went with and it's been solid as a rock. No problems at all running Windows 7, 8, Server 2008R2, Server 2012 and ESXi 5.x.

I went with 16GB of the following RAM:
    Newegg.com - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL10D-16GBXL

I use this particular machine to run VMWare Workstation VM's. Hence the reason that I opted for 16GB of RAM.

And even with my slight overclock, the stock Intel cooler is working just fine on my i7.

Thanks again for the useful info! I'm trying to determine which model of the ASUS P8Z77 motherboard I should get. I'm also trying to decide between the i5-2500k and the i5-3570k CPU. I am getting the ANTEC 620 water cooling unit to save room in the case and because I think it's pretty cool (pun intended)! I'll get the same RAM you have and I'll get a Radeon HD 7750 video card because i need to reuse my current GT-430 in another PC I use for testing. I'm reusin everything else, so this shouldn't be a big deal... I'll order everything by Friday if my local computer shop doesn't have what I want... Thanks again for the advice, I really appreciate it!
