Great post and good job, Art!!! It is sometimes shocking to find out how clogged most computers are when you open the casing. But you did a nice job there! Man, what will your son's friend be happy when he recieves a magnificient system back .

Here is my current build from 2010. Its a Corsair 400R and plenty of room to hide the cables. And the rubber grommets in the cutouts don't fall out when you mess with the cables. I am running a bunch of fans at slow and quite speed with fan controller. Front 2-120mm intake,Side 2-140mm intake,Top 2-140mm exhaust, Bottom 1-140mm intake, Rear 120mm exhaust through radiator for CPU water cooler. PSU pulls from filtered bottom and exhausts out back.

Auch..... the first pic hurts my eyes and makes me all sad . I can almost smell the burned clogged dust there.... But the afterwards photo looks shining!
You might consider making a Windows Theme Pack with those photo's you've taken. Install that when you return the pc. It just might give the owner a little 'tap on the shoulder' not to let it get that clogged with dust anymore

It might only be a mere 5 degrees difference, but I guess it also included a huge performance boost?!

Nice jobs on the neater cables guys.

Better cable management means greater airflow into the case and to heated components while also maximizing hot air being pushed out of the case by means of exhaust fans.

Should be a no brainer and one of the top priorities for custom PC builders who really care about keeping component temperatures as low a possible for long lasting trouble free PC operations especially if the user also plans on overclocking the PC.

Good question! I'm not a gamer, so this is my main PC and a "budget build" to replace my Q660-based system, so I'm looking at these:

    1. Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H and i3 3220
    2. Gigabyte Z77M-D3H and i5 3450
    3. GigaByte GA-B75-D3H and i3 2100

I'm not going to overclock and I'll be buying a Radeon HD 7750, 16GB of DDR3 RAM, reusing my Intel 120GB SSD and WD 2TB Caviar Black drive and cases, fans. I'll be buying the Antec Kuehler 620 water cooler. I want to get 2 years of use from this and I want some noticeable improvement over my current Q6600 CPU and 6GB of DDR2 RAM... What do you think?

Without an overclock, I don't see any reason whatsoever that you would need a water cooler setup. I run my Intels with slight overclocks on the stock cooler and they are just fine.

To ensure a performance boost from that Q6600...I would stay for sure with the i5 and skip the i3's. I've got a Q9550 at home and a Core i7-3770 at work and for may daily tasks, I see VERY LITTLE difference.
