Solved win+x - Simple Start Menu has become very slow

Hi all.. This is the first issue I've encountered since installing windows 8, I've had it since it was released to the masses in October.

When I use the simple start menu, via win+x or right click at bottom left of screen the menu pops up instantly. But when I select an option, such as control panel or anything else it takes at least 5 - 10 seconds for the selected feature to load.

Just the other day, anything and everything I selected was basically instant, so this is a new problem. If I select, for example, control panel from quick launch from the taskbar it pops instantly. So it seems to definitely be the simple start menu feature(win+x).

I have, as far as I know, installed all of the latest drivers for my MB and the latest driver for my video card.

Is this possibly a new problem from a windows update or do you guys think it's maybe a driver issue? I got all of my drivers from the asus website, nvidia.com and some from station-drivers.com

Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated. :thumb:

Hi Der Snoober,

I tried the scan and it didnt find any errors. Thanks for the assistance.

I decided to uninstall all of the recent drivers I installed. The intel chipset drivers, realtek audio drivers, Intel Gigabit Ethernet Driver: 17.4, Atheros AR3011 Bluetooth Driver/Suite, and finally ASMedia USB 3.0 Driver. All the latest from station-drivers.com The problem went away. So it was definitely one of the drivers.

I re-installed the intel chipset drivers and the realtek audio drivers. I let windows install the rest of the missing drivers on its own. The problem is still gone. So I guess this is solved.. :)
